  • "Do not be a fool-why die before your time?" (Ecclesiastes 7:17b)

download bibleIt is a fact that life is a gift from God. Fact is, I believe everyone, even non-Christians, should agree that human life is the most precious and valuable thing on the planet.

It is a gift from the Lord and this is why some like to call it a borrowed life. We should be grateful that we are given a chance to live this life and to play our parts in the Lord's grand scheme of things.

However, sometimes, life gets too harsh. Sometimes the pain hurts more than you can bear, and some crack under the weight and pressure. They would rather die than endure the pain of the obstacles and trials that life has to offer for every one of us. These individuals think of suicide.

This is the sad truth: teen suicide rates in the United States have more than doubled in the last 40 years.

What does the death Bible verses have to say about suicide? What does the Lord think of the people who commit it?

First things first, the excerpt above. We must not die before our time, and only the Lord knows when that will come. We were given this life, and so we do not have the right to end it ourselves. Our time is only up to the Lord who gave us life.

Second, suicide is a violation of the commandment from the death Bible verses, "You shall not murder". When you murder someone, you are taking away that person's life, and when you commit suicide you are taking away your own, a life we borrowed from the Lord. We simply do not have the right to take away what was given to us as a gift.

Here are some excerpts from the Scriptures about suicide:

"Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple." (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV)

"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV)

Suicide is a mortal sin. It should never cross your mind. The Lord is merely testing your faith in Him.
