- Over the years as an Austin, Texas Guardian ad Litem and Private Investigator I have testified at least a thousand times during family law bench and jury trials. I have seen my share of good lawyers, bad lawyers, and pro se litigants. This article is for those of you who have dared to represent yourselves during court. I realize that representing yourself can be a daunting and a terrifying experience, but it can be done successfully. Your main advantages are: (1) it costs you very little money vs. what the other party is paying their attorney which is usually around $300 per hr.; and (2) the judge may be a little more permissive of procedural mistakes that the pro se litigant may make.
In short, the divorce process is just too much for the average person to handle on their own. A good lawyer is familiar with the process, and they can handle all of the work for you. If it's an uncontested divorce, you won't even have to appear in court!
If there is to be a decrease in the amount of divorces granted each day, then it is going to take some effort on the part of married couples. If you have just gotten married, or have been married a while, you should expect that your partner will change over time. There is not a family law attorney in the world that has not heard the woeful tale of how a partner changed during the marriage and how it is no longer working out. It is a fact of life that people change.
Your Ocala child custody lawyer must eventually return your phone calls, inform you about any settlement offers, and give you copies of everything that relates to your case.
For example, let's say we have two parents: Dave and Cindy. Dave and Cindy have one child, Tyler. Five years after Tyler is born, Dave and Cindy get a divorce. Subsequently, they end up in a custody battle over the child. Both feel that they would be the best custodial parent.
Finally, let's examine a closely related issue: image. The simplest way to do this is to close your eyes and think of attorneys and the law. What comes up for you? Most people would see stacks of documents, row upon row of books that look exactly the same and quiet spaces furnished in a bygone style. Others may see images related to a court or even a hefty bill. Interesting? I don't think so and probably neither do you, even if you inhabit one of those spaces and need those books to do your job.
If you meet her in your local supermarket, leave immediately - just leave the cart and get out. If she tries to stop you, get it on camera (if the store has them), and note the name and description of any witnesses, as well as the time it happens. If you feel threatened at any point, call the police. As long as you can prove that you're complying with the rules, she can't accuse you of a restraining order violation.
