  • Several people have an alcoholic friend hurt their feelings, or behaved inappropriately. Alcoholics frequently make promises they cannot keep; forget arrive intoxicated; or to show up for occasions that are significant. Alcoholic friends apologize profusely or infrequently remember being bad, cursing they will never offend again.
I've an alcoholic friend who has been fighting the battle her whole life. In the time we were 14 years old , she's taken a bottle of booze in her purse. She continued to drive after her license was revoked and has been detained for drunk driving numerous times. She has gotten into pub brawls and been hospitalized for alcohol poisoning, yet refuses to believe she has a difficulty.
As a fan of the A&E show, Intervention, the wealthy woman have learned a lot about drug addiction and alcoholism. The show revolves around enthusiasts who are in desperate need of help. Intervention counselors have family members and pals write letters for their family members. I decided to use their format in hope of helping my friend comprehend the affect her drinking has on those who love her.
Not long ago, my alcoholic friend encouraged me to dinner. Although uncertain, she and I accepted her invitation and met at a restaurant where my loving husband and I dine on a regular basis. She behaved so badly that I believed I must address the scenario with her once and for all. I picked to write my words on paper so she couldn't interject excuses or prevent me from having my say, instead of having a dialog.
An Open Letter to Buddies Suffering from Alcoholism
    Dear Alcoholic Friend,
I don't feel as if I know you any longer, although we have been buddies for years. As adolescents, we cried together, laughed together, and shared our hopes and dreams. You intended to have a modeling career and needed to travel the world. Alcohol stole your dreams, although you nearly made it.
Rather than walking away from the bottle, you adopted it. During your 20s and 30s you partied like a rock star and drank like a fish. I lost track of the number of times I stayed by your side to make certain you were breathing and tucked you into bed.
After you became a mom I had high hopes that you'll maintain your sobriety. Alcohol took a strong hold and compelled your mother when your daughter was two years old to take guardianship of her. To this day, your kid will not know you because you picked booze.
Over the years, booze has turned you into a bitter, angry girl who feels everyone is against your child. The reality is no one. We only cannot bear to be around you when you're drunk, which sadly, is all of the time.
You cursed at me and used vulgar profanity facing children and their parents. You got lost in your way to the bathroom and wandered about in the pub, asking strangers to purchase you a drink. As you staggered back to the table, you ate food off guests' plates and stopped to speak to they.
The wealthy woman recognize that alcoholism is alcoholism and seizures a disorder, but I can not offer to help you if you'ren't willing to help yourself. Step one requires admitting you have a problem. There are lots of areas should you really desire it to get help.
I also understand that I have enabled you to continue drinking. By telling you how greatly I have been hurt by you or not being honest with my feelings, you'd no way of knowing how I feel. But today I am changing that.
Your addiction to booze has affected me negatively in many manners. I don't feel safe being around you. Your behaviour is unpredictable and your outbursts of rage frighten me. You always find a way to leave the restaurant when the check arrives, leaving the wealthy woman to pick up your high-priced bar bill. You've borrowed hundreds of dollars and not repaid me. The wealthy woman have picked you up off the floor, cleaned up your vomit, disregarded your childish outbursts, and made explanations to my buddies, but as of today I refuse to participate in the insanity any longer.
Please get help today. You may not have tomorrow. However, if you are unable to locate the courage to obtain the help you need, the wealthy woman must release you from my life. Please don't contact me until you walk the course to sobriety.
