The human race loves to partake in grand debates. My team versus your team; Godfather I versus Godfather II; New York pizza versus Chicago pizza. However, of all time, maybe the greatest debate of is which animated, prime time comedy show reigns supreme. Family Guy, led through the imposing trio of Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin and Brian Griffin or The Simpsons making use of their formidable strong front set of Homer and Bart Simpson? With so many similarities between the shows, the only way to properly discuss this matter is by using a character by character, situation by situation breakdown.
"The Simpsons," about the misadventures of an yellow hued dysfunctional family residing in the fictional town of Springfield, now offers being the longest running scripted TV show ever, having first aired as shorts during "The Tracy Ullman Show" in 1987 and receiving a unique half hour show in 1989. The show features Homer, the dimwitted but well meaning patriarch, Marge, the long suffering but loving matriarch, as well as the kids, Bart, a mischievous brat, Lisa, the hyper intelligent and socially inept older daughter, and Maggie, the inarticulate yet cunning infant daughter. "The Simpsons," which features an eclectic cast of characters, often comments on the human condition because it works with its broad, comedic plots.
"The Gift in the Magi" by O'Henry - Della and Jim can't decide what to get the other person for Christmas. With little profit their pockets and a lot of love within their hearts, Della and Jim quit the things they love most to offer the other a Merry Christmas. Lesson ideas include teaching allusions and teaching irony.
DVD and Blu-ray special features include deleted scenes, deleted scenes gallery with commentary, audio commentaries on all episodes, sketch galleries, bonus episode ('Holidays of Future Passed'), easter eggs and many featurettes: 'Greetings, Junior Scienteers!,' 'Special Language Feature (Pranksta Rap),' 'Living inside Moment,' 'Animation Showcase - Future-Drama ACT 1 and 'Live! It's The Simpsons - Table Read Featurette for 'Thank God, It's Doomsday'.' Exclusive to Blu-ray are two bonus episodes: 'Lisa's Wedding' from Season 6 and 'Bart towards the Future' from Season 11.
The Simpsons Season 5 DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "Homer's Barbershop Quartet" through which Homer tells Bart and Lisa the tale of his early brush with fame being a an affiliate "The Be Sharps" - a barbershop quartet made up of Homer, Principal Skinner, Apu, and Barney (who replaced Chief Wiggum at the request of a music rep). The Be Sharps consider the world by storm, performing for President Reagan and Johnny Carson. Eventually, this rock band is destroyed by Homer's bad song writing and Barney's new Asian girlfriend? Other notable episodes from Season 5 include "Rosebud" (a satire of Citizen Kane, however with Mr. Burns inside the starring role) and "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy" where Lisa protests the stereotypical and sexists remarks manufactured by a talking Malibu Stacy doll (her efforts eventually create a new service design which bombs inside marketplace)?
